Rice Plays loses to UT: 24 to 8
Rice fell to UT: 24 to 8. A few key players were out for Rice and the team played many rookies. Nonetheless coach Mario did a fantastic job with the new kids and made a great game out of it. Below is the report from referee Chris Callan.

UT looked bigger by 20 lbs average at #1-8, but Rice punched above their weight and showed excellent scrum fitness and technique that has been their trademark for years. Coach Mario Botha has prepared his club well for TRU/WEST D1 play and it took 60 minutes for UT`s size and defensive work to wear down the home side.
At halftime it was a close 10 to 8 affair that UT had to work hard to convert to a decisive win with two well worked converted tries in the last period.
This was one of the best played and most well disciplined matches I have seen in ages. Obviously both coaching staffs deserve lots of credit but the players` attitudes were excellent.
